Liberalised aviation sector is crucial for global economic and human development, said Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, Akbar Al Baker, addressing the CAPA Qatar Aviation, Aeropolitical and Regulatory Summit.
Under the patronage and attendance of the Minister of Transport and Communications, H E Jassim bin Saif bin Ahmed Al Sulaiti, the CAPA Qatar Aviation, Aeropolitical and Regulatory Summit began yesterday at the Sheraton Hotel.
The two-day summit kicked-off in the presence of the President of Qatar’s Civil Aviation Authority, Abdulla bin Nasser Turki Al Subaey, and witnessed attendance of ambassadors, officials and senior executives from the aviation industry.
Delivering the keynote address H E Akbar Al Baker, said: “The timing of this years’ summit is perfect to engage in fruitful discussions and constructive debate. More than ever, our industry continues to show great levels of resilience in the face of adversity and disruption. At the same time, we remain a positive and constructive voice in improving regulatory frameworks across regions, especially in the areas of sustainability and air liberalization”.
H E Akbar Al Baker that: “One of my core beliefs is that a liberalised aviation sector can be a great catalyst for global economic and human development. At Qatar Airways, we believe in connecting people with no borders, only horizons.”
He added that “We should support the full implementation of CORSIA as the only global scheme to reduce industry carbon emissions.”
The CAPA Qatar Aviation, Aeropolitical and Regulatory Summit features more than 40 expert speakers from across the airline, legal and government sectors discussing the latest developments in international aviation regulation, both within the Gulf region and globally.

In his speech, Alexandre de Juniac stressed on the importance of global standards in aviation environment, infrastructure, aircraft certification, and containment of outbreaks
“The freedom that aviation provides is critical to the world in which we live. With the help of good regulation, we constantly improve safety, efficiency and sustainability. We have a critical role to play in containing and eventually solving this current crisis,” said Alexandre de Juniac in his speech. “History shows us that the demand for the freedom to fly is ever-growing. The next months will certainly be challenging for the air transport industry and for governments. Together we will get through the virus outbreak. And together we will continue to build the global standards and regulations that will enable this industry—the business of freedom—well into the future,” he added.
“Global aviation industry collectively needs to bring emissions down: quickly & permanently. It needs a basket of measures: improved aircraft fuel efficiency, operational improvements, market based measures & increased uptake of sustainable aviation fuels,” said Henrik Hololei.
