Qatar Airways took delivery of 25 aircraft last year, increasing count of its fleet size to over 230.
The delivery of new aircraft help the award winning airline to keep the average age of its fleet under five years and serve new destinations.
“We added 25 additional aircraft during 2018 taking our fleet to more than 230 and we have already taken fore more aircraft in January alone. We became the first airline in the world to take delivery of Airbus-1000 during the same period,” Akbar Al Baker, Group Chief Executive, Qatar Airways, said yesterday addressing a press conference held on the sidelines of the CAPA Qatar Aviation, Aeropolitical and Regulatory Summit at Sheraton Doha.
“The number of aeroplanes we fly have the average age of under 5 years and we take delivery of one aircraft on an average every 10 days,” he added.
The airline had opened 25 new destinations in 2018, showing that the unjust blockade has failed in denting its expansion plans.
“Hopefully, next year we will be one of the first airlines to receive the (Boeing) 777X which we will proudly fly as part of our fleet,” he added. “Our strategy is also to invest in the strongest airlines in the world,” he added.
He added that Qatar Airways is working on a strategy aims to invest in the world’s most powerful airlines.
He said that the airline achieved significant steps in the past as it has 46,000 employees and covers more than 160 destinations around the world. The airline also named World’s Best Business Class’ by the 2018 World Airline Awards, managed by international air transport rating organisation, Skytrax and won several other accolades.
