Doha: Ooredoo has launched a dedicated Inland Sea application to help easily navigate people through desert dunes to safe spots and tourist attractions.
The first Qatar desert navigation app will provide users with information such as geography and terrain, camping sites, emergency numbers and Supernet signal towers so that desert visitors can stay connected.
The app will also offer user’s satellite navigation through the desert to the Inland Sea using Ooredoo’s Supernet, offering peace of mind for families and friends visiting the area.
Fatima Sultan Al Kuwari, Director, Community and Public Relations, Ooredoo Qatar, said: “Ooredoo continues to provide our full support for people’s desert adventures, as part of our wider engagement with the culture and traditions of Qatar.
“Wherever people travel to, they can be sure of a great connection to our Supernet, and now be safe in the knowledge that thanks to our app, finding your way home or to a dedicated medical area near the Inland Sea has never been easier.”
In another first, the app will provide visitors with the dune names as they exist in Qatari lore. This is the first time the spoken Arabic traditional dune names have been translated onto a digital map, and will offer visitors cultural insight into the area.
Anyone with a smartphone can download the app at https://itunes.apple.com/qa/app/ooredoo-inland-sea/id1061454154?mt=8 for iOS users, and https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=qa.ooredoo.android.inlandsea for android.
This is the latest in desert activations for the company. To ensure all people are safe in the desert, Ooredoo distributed a specially-commissioned hard copy of the Inland Sea Desert Map and Guide, which includes information such as emergency numbers, tips on desert survival and locations to visit.
The company enhanced its nationwide Ooredoo Supernet across the desert, launching ‘Operation Desert’ to upgrade and install new network towers at popular desert sites and camping spots, including rolling out 4G+ towers.
To ensure families stay safe in the desert, the Ooredoo Inland Sea App also has a direct contact button to ‘Fazat Mawater’ - a team of trained professional desert drivers, who volunteer to rescue people from in situations such as marooned cars, trapped wheels or being lost.
