Landmark victory for MES athletes in CBSE meet

Doha: The athletic team of MES Indian School with its scintillating performance won the overall championship in the 20th CBSE National Athletic Meet held at N H Goel World School, Raipur, India, recently. About 2,400 athletes converged in Raipur for the CBSE Nationals. MES is the first Indian school in the Gulf region to achieve this honour for the second time.
The MES team comprising 18 boys participated in various events under categories 14, 16 and 19. A total of six Gold 10 Silver and one Bronze medals with an aggregate of 57 meet points were garnered by the winners. Many meet records were smashed and in its ascent to the title. Ahmed Khalid set a new meet record in the under 16 high jump by clearing 1.95M, thus bringing an end to a five year stand record set way back in 2010. The 4x100M under 19 relay team comprising Farhan Ottakath. Ahmed Hashir Farraz, Mohd Arshad and Owaiz Nasrulla clinched Gold with a record time 43.63sec. The same squad raced for Silver in the 4x400M relay race with a record time of 4min  and 27 seconds. In the under 16 Boys 4x100M relay event the MES squad comprising of Nayaf Rahman, Mohd Azam. Avinash P and Misnad Muneer finished second winning Silver, while Mohd Harshad won Bronze medal in the Javelin throw clearing 50.90M. Chairman of the CBSE YSK Seshu Kumar honoured the winners in a prize distribution ceremony.
It can be recalled that MES made its berth in the nationals by virtue of clinching the overall championship title in the Qatar cluster Athletic Meet conducted for the CBSE affiliated schools last month. MES participants of the meet include the winners of clusters at the national levels and the Gulf region.
Upon arrival at Hamad International Airport Doha, the winning team flanked by Ahmed Isham, Director Sports & Games of MES Governing Board, G Rajkumar, Principal (officiating), school officials and parents was accorded a rousing welcome.
“It is a euphoric moment as the school athletic team made every one of us proud by their outstanding display of sporting skills. This emphatic achievement vouches for the untiring efforts of the school in equipping students with the required talents and skill to face future with confidence’, remarked Ahmed Isham. Akbar Ali K T, Head of Physical Education Department and Steeson K Mathew accompanied the contingent besides training the athletes with Mubassir K P, a faculty member of Physical Education Department.
