Recent increase in Covid-19 cases not a cause for alarm: Official

Doha: The recent increase in number of Covid-19 cases is not a cause for alarm, said Dr Jameela Al Ajmi, Executive Director of Corporate Infection Prevention & Control at HMC.

Speaking in a video published at the Ministry of Public Health on Twitter, she said that “the increase along with the emergence of the new Omicron variant around the world is a reminder that the battle against Covid-19 is not yet over.”
Explaining how the community can support the ongoing fight against COVID-19, Al Ajmi said that we can all play a part in the ongoing fight against Covid-19 through three main actions.

First, getting vaccinated including getting booster vaccine when you are eligible.
Two, getting tested quickly if you experience signs and symptoms of Covid-19 or have been exposed to a Covid case,
Three, adhering to the precautionary measures including social distancing, regular handwashing, and wearing of mask as it has proven scientifically reduce the spread of the virus.

The current restrictions require people to wear mask in closed public places especially in schools and universities.
