Doha: Birla Public School (BPS) Doha with 7,500 students is playing vital role in providing quality education to students in Qatar.
“BPS Doha has been making its wonderful contribution to the field of education and community development in Qatar over past many years,” said Ambassador of India to Qatar, H E Dr. Deepak Mittal.
Speaking at a reception in the honour of the visit of Chairperson of the Aditya Birla Group, Kumar Mangalam Birla, at BPS Doha campus yesterday, the Ambassador said that he heard positive things by parents and students about their learning experiences at the school.
The event was attended by Chairperson of the Aditya Birla Group, Kumar Mangalam Birla; Chairman of Birla Public School, Doha Gope Shahni: Director Dr. Mohan Thomas; Director CV Rappai; Director Lukose K Chacko, principles of Indian schools and other dignitaries.
The Ambassador said that the visit of Kumar Mangalam Birla is a great motivation for students and faculty members who have been working equally very hard over past years especially during COVID-19 pandemic. “Indeed, the visit and presence as a business icon from India is a very strong support for the development and furthering bilateral relation between Qatar and India,” said the Ambassador.
“Qatar and India had strong relations in several sectors in old days and today business, energy, education bring closer the peoples of both countries. We are working to develop a great cricket league in Qatar,” said the Ambassador.
Addressing the event, Chairperson of the Aditya Birla Group, Kumar Mangalam Birla, said that this is a wonderful feeling to be here in Birla Public School, Doha. “I heard countless times from my grandparents about this school. They were really deeply attached with this school in an emotional way,” said Kumar Mangalam. He said that there are almost 50,000 students at various schools set up by his grandfather.
However, he said: “The BPS Doha is my best school when I visited it I came to know why I felt that way. I think it is befitting institution in the name of my family.”
He said that nation moves on the feet of its children.
“The quality of education shifts minds of our children. BPS Doha with 7,500 students is a huge institution even in global standard. The ability, manner and quality shaped the mind of students. I hope DPS students will be great leaders of tomorrow and global citizens as well,” said Kumar Mangalam.
Sharing purpose of his visit with The Peninsula, Kumar Mangalam said that Qatar is such an impressive place. “I heard so much about it, especially Biral Public School, Doha which was founded by my grandparents. I was very keen to see it.”
He said that the visit also aimed at exploring business opportunities in Qatar.
“We are keen to do some business in Qatar. We are looking at different options,” he said without giving further details.
Speaking about business opportunity in India, Kumar Mangalam said, “India is one of the fastest growing economies of the world creating great opportunities.”
Highlighting the achievements of BPS Doha, Academic Director – Principle of BPS Doha, Harish Saduja, said that the BPS secured above world average in English, sciences and mathematics in PISA examination last year. He said that this year eight students of BPS cleared NEET examination with over 500 marks enabling them to get admission in medical colleges run by Indian government. Director Lukose K Chacko said that Birla Public School, Doha was founded by two great legends from India Basant Kumar Birla and Dr. Sarla Birla,. The students of BPS enthralled the audience by performing excellent cultural programmes.
