DOHA: The homegrown Qatar Orthopedic Review Course by the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has gained regional and international popularity.

It has also reduced orthopedicians travelling abroad for training and exams, said Dr Mazin Abdulaziz (pictured), Specialist Orthopedic Surgeon, Hamad General Hospital. The 5th Qatar Orthopedic Review Course is currently being held by HMC at its Hajar Auditorium at HMC’s Education Center and will run until tomorrow.

The course aims to raise the standard of education in the region by bringing together international faculty as well as orthopedic healthcare professionals.

It will provide residents, specialists and consultants with an exclusive learning opportunity to delve into important orthopedic topics related to pathology and basic science, spine, pediatric orthopedics, sports orthopedics, adult reconstruction and trauma. Around 120 course participants engage in intensive, examination focused review sessions that are consistent with the orthopedic board exam.

“This first of its kind course provides unique information in the field of orthopedics to participants. This year majority of participants are from Qatar. But we have considerable number of participants coming from the region, Arab and other countries,” said Dr Abdulaziz speaking at a press conference held yesterday.

“Since the introduction of the course, we have seen 100 percent pass rates among the HMC orthopedicians at board exams,” he added.

Although the course is designed for senior orthopedic residents preparing to take a board exam, other orthopedists who would like to revise their orthopedic knowledge are also attending. This course is an Accredited Group Learning Activity Category 1 as defined by the Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners. As many as 12 speakers are attending the 5th Qatar Orthopedic Review Course and they also include experts from the US, UK and France. Two day pre event workshop was also held for participants on bone tumours.
