We have nothing but remember clearly that day three years ago, when we were surprised and without any reason they imposed land, sea and air the blockade on our country, and this came from our partners in the Gulf Cooperation Council and the closest countries to us geographically, socially and economically.
Personally, I remember the details of the matter, moment by moment, because I was involved in an election campaign to reach the summit of the World Organization for Education, Culture and Science (UNESCO).
On that day, at the beginning of the blessed month of Ramadan, I woke up early to prepare to continue my nomination campaign, which I had no doubt about its success.
In good faith, I was thinking that the election of an Arab from the Gulf to the highest position of UNESCO and the problems between the Gulf people real-time differences, and it is a summer cloud which will end rapidly.
With the passing of the hours, and I do not say the days, the situation became clear, and the matter was planned at night, and the goal was to undermine our country’s sovereignty, and perhaps even its existence if they were able to do so.
Of course, the matter relating to my candidacy at UNESCO was not an exception, but they resorted to every means to impede my access to the position.
But our country, led by Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, quickly overcome the first shock of the siege, realized the danger and prepared an integrated plan to deal with the siege locally, regionally and internationally.
From all political, economic and social aspects, the entire people are positioned firmly behind the leadership, and our country started the march of challenge and demonstrated its confidence on itself and its ability not only to withstand but to develop the country and adapt with the extraordinary circumstances imposed on it.
With the time, Qatar has become an example in the world with its successes and its great ability in ensuring the continuation of the development process, and even in its ability to provide support and assistance to brothers or friends who need it.
Today our country faces as the entire world faces the coronavirus pandemic. Fortunately, our country faces the pandemic, and it has gained experience in dealing with challenges and crises.
That is why, and due to the experience, we have acquired, we repeat (though it is hateful to you. But you may hate a thing although it is good for you), and we are now repeating the same expression that we have previously when the blockade imposed on us.
