Los Angeles - The son of Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen was arrested on domestic violence charges, according to jail records and reports and placed on leave by the NFL club.
The Broncos said they were "disappointed" to learn of John Bowlen's arrest and added that he would be placed on indefinite leave from his administrative job with the team.
"While this is a personal issue, he is accountable to all club and league conduct policies," the Broncos said in a statement on Thursday.
Online records for the Arapahoe County jail showed Bowlen, 29, was held on harassment charges Wednesday night pending a Thursday court appearance.
According to the Denver Post, he was being held on suspicion of third-degree assault and harassment, both misdemeanours.
Pat Bowlen, who is suffering from Alzheimer's disease, said last July that he was relinquishing day-to-day control of the team and hoped to turn it over to one of his seven children.
The NFL's domestic violence policy was revamped last August to include more stringent rules in the wake of the case involving former Baltimore Ravens star Ray Rice. It applies not only to players but to all team employees.
