Urgent Care Services provided by Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) in health centers across the country have seen an increased number of people seeking quick and efficient care for non-life threatening medical needs.
Urgent Care Services provided at health centres have seen an increase by 74% according to latest data released yesterday by the PHCC. A total of 81,500 people sought Urgent Care Services in 2021 and the numbers increased to 142,415 in 2022.
The PHCC operates nine 24-hour Urgent Care Centers across Qatar and offers treatment for non-life-threatening conditions.
PHCC’s Urgent Care Centers are located at Rawdat Al Khail, Gharrafat Al Rayyan, Al Kabaan, Al Sheehaniya, Al Ruwais, Muaither, Abu Baker Al Siddiq, Um Salal, and Al Mashaf.
The Urgent Care Centers provide services to patients with non-threatening medical needs under primary care scope, such as minor burns, sprains, severe headache or earache, high fever, dehydration and dizziness.
However, any patients with conditions will be stabilised and then immediately transferred by Ambulance Service for further care to a hospital under Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
The PHCC has said that Urgent Care Services provided by the PHCC plays a critical role in ensuring the delivery of such services in a consistent manner to patients.
To mention, HMC has repeatedly said that Emergency Departments operate 24 hours a day and provide urgent and emergency care for serious medical cases. Patients who require urgent care can visit any urgent care centres which are operated by the PHCC.
“The role of our Trauma and Emergency Centre is to deliver urgent medical care for the most seriously injured or sick patients,” Deputy Chairman, Corporate Department of Emergency Medicine at HMC, Dr. Aftab Mohammad Umar had said earlier.
“We are committed to treating all emergency cases at the Trauma and Emergency Centre, but we do prioritise the needs of those with the most critical conditions first,” he said.
The Urgent Care Services provided by the PHCC together with HMC ensures smooth delivery of care to patients. It is focusing on integrated care in line with the National Health Strategy 2018-2022.
