RC aircraft festival draws over 5,000 visitors

DOHA: The three-day second RC aircraft festival, which concluded on Saturday at the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara), attracted more than 5,000 visitors.

The festival was organised under the patronage of the Minister of Culture and Sports H E Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali and Qatar Central Bank (QCB) Governor H E Sheikh Abdulla bin Saoud Al Thani. 

Sheikh Mohamed bin Fahad Al Thani, Chairman of Qatar RC Sport Centre, said: “The festival achieved many accomplishments, the most important of which is the large number of visitors which reached more than 5,000 during the three days of the event. Apart from general visitors, experts in the  field of RC aircraft also participated in the event”.

He also stressed that the organisation of the festival was good and has contributed significantly to the achievement of the goals of the festival. 

The Chairman added that the festival is the first of its kind in Qatar and the Middle East for RC aircraft. 

It included the latest models of RC aircraft with  different sizes and uses, in addition to the latest models manufactured in Qatar. 

The festival also included competitions, cultural and entertainment activities for children and families in order to introduce to them this kind of sports. 

The visitors enjoyed the experience of flying aircraft on simulators which were available at the festival. Also, they enjoyed RC aircraft air show. 

More than 50 types of RC aircraft took part in the second edition of RC Aircraft Festival.

The participants appreciated this initiative and the organisers urged Qatari youth to develop their skills in this regard to participated in international events.

For his part Jarrah Ali Al Mohanadi, Qatar RC Sport Centre Airport Director, said that the visitors enjoyed the shows made by RC aircraft, boats and vehicles and the time was convenient for people as the  event was conducted during the weekend.

He expressed hope that this sport will attract more people and it will generate more interest among Qatari youth and also hoped that more centres to groom the skills of youth in this field will come up in the country.

Al Mohanadi added that the Qatar RC Sport Centre is the main destination for sports practitioners and those who wish to learn and train this sport.
