Over 150 professionals, researchers take part in KPFQ’s World Pharmacists Day event

Doha: More than 150 pharmacy professionals, researchers and senior pharmacy leaders from across Qatar attended the World Pharmacists Day (WPD) celebrations organised by the Kerala Pharmacy Forum Qatar (KPFQ) at the J W Marriott Marquis Hotel, Doha, recently.

The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) endorsed the establishment of WPD to be observed annually on September 25. This year’s WPD theme was “Pharmacy united in action for a healthier world”. The event showcased the unity, strength and valuable contributions of pharmacy professionals in Qatar. 

Established in 2015, KPFQ is a non-profit professional association of Indian Pharmacists in Qatar. The KPFQ’s WPD celebrations featured H E Dr Deepak Mittal, Indian Ambassador to Qatar as the Chief Guest, and Dr Moza Al Hail, Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Pharmacy Executive Director as the Special Guest. 

The event comprised a wide variety of local and international subject matter experts, notably, the assistant directors from HMC’s pharmacy department Dr P V Abdulrouf and Dr Wessam El Kassem, the President of the European Society of Clinical Pharmacy, Professor Derek Stewart and Jahfer Us Sadiq, the President of the Indian Business and Professionals Council (IBPC) Qatar. 

KPFQ’s General-Secretary  Sohail Konnakkot introduced the keynote speakers as the event began with two educational sessions. The key themes of the lecture were around pharmacy prescribing and pharmacy practice research.  

Mohammed Riyas (Prgm. Convenor) and  Asharaf K P (President - KPFQ) provided the welcome speech and presidential message during the event.  

Asharaf said, “I extend a warm welcome to all guests and fellow pharmacists. The WPD is an important day for pharmacists across the world; its significance shouldn’t be undermined and it’s important to acknowledge the work they do. I take this opportunity to thank you all.”  

Dr  Mittal officially inaugurated the event and addressed the audience with a short message. He said, “I am delighted to extend my warm greetings and congratulations to KPFQ for the WPD. The role of the pharmacist community has always been an indispensable part of the healthcare sector, and it was more evident during the COVID-19 pandemic. Each one you are the real ambassadors of the India and you all represent the great nation in every walk of your life.”

The Ambassador also inaugurated the official website for KPFQ, a unique platform that will include membership details, upcoming events, updated information and registration portal.  Anwar Sadat from the KPFQs IT and Media wing also attended the inauguration.  

Dr Moza Al Hail extended her support and appreciated the KPFQ leadership for their continuous efforts to improve the community pharmacy services.
