Spanish hurdler Orlando Ortega was awarded a bronze medal in the men’s 110m following an appeal lodged by team Spain. The team has claimed that their athlete was obstructed during Wednesday’s final by Jamaican athlete Omar McLeod.
Ortega was impeded by a tumbling McLeod and eventually finished the race in the fourth position with a time of 13.30 secs.
He was third at the time of the incident but his progress was clearly affected, making it impossible for him to maintain the medal position.
The Jury of Appeal reconsidered the case and in view of the obstruction and accepted the appeal and directed that Ortega also be awarded a bronze medal.
