Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in the Sultanate of Oman H E Assila bint Salem bin Suleiman Al Samsamiah, confirmed that her visit to the State of Qatar comes within the framework of efforts to enhance integration and partnership between the two brotherly countries in the trade and investment fields, describing this visit as a success.
She said, in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), that the purpose of her visit to the State of Qatar is to promote investment in the Sultanate of Oman, learn about investment opportunities in the State of Qatar, and search for integration between the visions of Qatar 2030 and Oman 2040, referring to the meetings Her Excellency had with Qatar Investment Authority and representatives of the Qatari private sector to explain the promising investment opportunities in the Sultanate, and the opportunities in the National Vision of the Sultanate of Oman 2040 to enhance cooperation in the vital sectors that it is working to develop, especially in light of the presence of natural resources that the country aspires to benefit from.
Al Samsamiah pointed out her country’s desire to expand the areas of partnership with the Qatari side, in line with the Sultanate’s 2040 vision, which will focus on the logistical sector, tourism, manufacturing industries and renewable energy, in addition to exploiting the natural resources in the country that may complement the economic sectors in the State of Qatar.
She explained that there are future projects that will be studied between the two sides to work on embodying them in reality, whether in Qatar or in Oman, in order to achieve the recommendations of the leaderships of the two countries and the desire to achieve integration in various fields.
On the possibility of holding a Qatari-Omani business forum in Muscat in which businessmen and investors from both countries participate to discuss the investment climate, available economic opportunities and the possibility of establishing joint projects, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in the Sultanate of Oman indicated that Qatari businessmen requested to see more investment opportunities in Oman and that is through organizing a forum that brings together the two sides. She said, that the start will be through the formation of a joint team that will study the idea of the next forum and its timing, so that its details will be revealed in the coming period.
Al Samsamiah also affirmed her country’s determination to overcome all obstacles and provide investment incentives to Qatari businessmen in the fields of trade, tourism, banking, industry and other sectors in which they are looking to invest, pointing out that she also sensed the desire of Qatari businesswomen to establish many joint projects with Omani businesswomen by finding channels of linkage between the two parties, noting the endeavor to expand cooperation to include various economic sectors, whether with businessmen or businesswomen.
The volume of intra-regional trade between Qatar and Oman amounted to about QR4.5bn in 2021, and the Sultanate of Oman topped the trade partners of the Qatari private sector in terms of exports during the same year.
About 200 Omani companies operate in the Qatari market with 100 percent Omani capital, in addition to about 200 other companies in partnership with Qatari companies operating in various sectors such as trade, contracting, services, hospitality, energy, maintenance, and others.
