Over 180 companies from 80 countries will participate in the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX) 2020.
The event will be held from March 16-18 at the Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC), and being hosted and organised by Qatar Armed Forces.
“We are honoured to receive ambassadors, defence and commercial attachés, and representatives from the military at today’s briefing in preparation of DIMDEX 2020. Building on the success of our last edition, the DIMDEX Organising Committee remains committed to the highest standards of logistical pre-event planning to ensure the smooth progression of the event,” said Staff Brigadier (Sea) Abdulbaqi Saleh Al Ansari, Chairman of DIMDEX.
Speaking on the sidelines of the diplomat briefing session focused on the preparation of the upcoming event at Sharq Village and Spa yesterday and attended by high-level diplomats, he said that since its establishment in 2008, the exhibition has witnessed steady growth, both in terms of the number of exhibitors and in terms of the total value of deals.
“This indicates the high confidence that the State of Qatar enjoys in its success in organising major events, as well as indicates the success of the Qatari Armed Forces, its ability to organise and ensure the success of such international exhibitions and events,” Chairman of DIMDEX added.
Under the theme ‘Connecting the World’s Maritime Defence and Security Community’, DIMDEX 2020 will be held under the patronage of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Attendees of the delegate briefing session received key information and technical details on the event including the four key elements of DIMDEX 2020: the main exhibition, the Middle East Naval Commanders Conference (MENC), networking opportunities with VIP delegates from around the world, and the Visiting Warships Display at Hamad Port.
Staff Brigadier Al Ansari said that the importance of the exhibition stems from being a medium for the transfer of expertise and technology, and it is one of the activities that receives international attention. He noted that the major maritime armament companies in the world will participate in this event.
He further stressed the importance of this meeting, as it provides the participating delegations and companies with a clear picture of the organizational process.
“The meeting aims to review the form and content of the exhibition, as well as review the details of the security protocol and the logistical aspects of visiting warships, which are invited to participate in the display of warships and the activities that the crews of those ships can exercise during their presence at Hamad Port,” he said.
Following a highly successful 12-year run, DIMDEX 2020 is set to return with a larger exhibition space than ever before, spanning over 35,000 sqm at the QNCC, where key decision makers, official VIP delegations and senior government ministers will be able to meet and discuss future procurement needs. In 2018, over 13,000 visitors and participants from 69 countries were in attendance with a record-breaking 35 partnerships, agreements and MOUs signed throughout the event days. With invitees from over 80 countries, DIMDEX 2020 is set to exceed these numbers and welcome an unprecedented visitor turnout, including regional and global exhibitors to showcase the latest innovations in the maritime and naval sphere, including cybersecurity, anti-piracy systems and C5iSR systems.
