Qatari mountaineers Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Thani, Sheikha Asma Al Thani, Hamida Issa, and Qatari adventurer Khalid Al Jaber, along with other guests during the community event.
Four Qatari adventurers and climbers recently came together to share their experiences of hoisting the Qatari flag on some of the highest peaks in the world.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Thani — the first Qatari to climb 7 summits including Mount Everest — and other adventurers including Sheikha Asma Al Thani, Hamida Issa, and Khalid Al Jaber spoke at a community initiative themed around sports and wellness with a sub-theme of 'Championing Arab Adventurers', held at Lusail Marina recently.
The initiative 'bigbmeetup' is run by a Qatar-based photographer and artist Bosco Menezes.
Khalid Al Jaber is the first Arab to motor across the silk route and drives the length of the two Americas.
The first Qatari woman to ski to the North Pole, Sheikha Asma Al Thani and the first Qatari woman to explore Antarctica, Hamida Issa, also shared their experiences at the event.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Thani said: “We are very happy to participate in this beautiful community initiative by Bosco. I have attended a previous 'bigbmeetup' themed on THIS ability and liked the idea and his vision. I am happy to have collaborated with the idea of bringing people together to inspire them to greater heights.”
Al Jaber said, "It was wonderful to meet my fellow adventurers and speak at the bigbmeetup event."
Founder of 'bigbmeetup' Bosco Menezes said: “This is my most high profile panel of all and one of my biggest so far. I am humbled to have had such amazing people speak about their stories and adventurers. My next meetup is in Paris in July, a special edition on ‘Qatar-France 2020 Year of Culture”.
Bigbmeetup aims to inspire, inform and spread the good work that individuals and groups of people perform in their everyday lives for the betterment of humankind.
'bigbmeetup' supports an NGO at each of their events, and this time the NGO of choice was ‘edclude’, a special needs tutoring academy.
The first meetup was held at The Torch Doha in April 2018 where Qatar 2022 brand ambassador and beIN Sports anchor, Mohammed Saadon Al Kuwari, was the keynote speaker. Among other speakers were Vishnu (Yoga guru), Shefa Ali (lifecoach) and a Pawsrescue spokesperson.
The last bigbmeetup event, which was the fifth, was on 'Celebrating the Artists of Qatar' and was held at Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum. Apart from the panel discussion, it was an art exhibition of over 20 artists including 13 Qatari artists.
Renowned artists such as Noor Abu Issa, Othman Kunji, Bouthayna Al Muftah, Shouq Al Mana, and Noorr Al Shammari took part in the exhibition.
