Doha: All ghazal lovers should keep the evening of December 8 free as two legends of Indian music world will be performing together in Qatar.

Multi-Grammy winner and tabla maestro Zakir Hussain is teaming up with ghazal sensation Hariharan at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) on December 8. They are bringing their Hazir 2 world tour to Qatar and assisting them on stage will be the magician on piano Stephen Davessy.

The event is organized by Music Lounge, a performing arts and music learning centre and event organisers, located at Al Wakra.

“This is part of their Hazir album tour. They have two albums in this series. We are organizing the show at the best available stage in Qatar as we want everyone to enjoy the masters at the best possible venue,” said Jaison George, director, Music Lounge.

The tickets for the show will be released on November 10 and will be priced at QR500 (platinum), QR250 (gold) and QR150 (balcony).

“In the noise and fury of diverse modern sounds, ghazal has retained its lyrical and melodious appeal. All the talk of its waning glory is completely misplaced and untrue. Huge crowds and numerous shows across the world for ghazal singers are ample proof of its staunch following. For me, it’s a lifelong commitment,” Hariharan said in a interview with The Hindu few years ago.

The words still ring true as their shows all over the world still see full houses and ghazals fans in Qatar will have an opportunity to witness some ghazal magic.

Zakir Hussain is an Indian tabla player, musical producer, film actor and composer. He was awarded the titles of Padma Shri in 1988, and Padma Bhushan in 2002, becoming the youngest percussionist to receive these honours, for his contributions in the world of music.

Hariharan is an Indian playback and ghazal singer, whose songs have been featured many Indian languages. He is an established ghazal singer and one of the pioneers of Indian fusion music. In 2004, he was honoured with the Padma Shri by the Government of India and is a two-time National Award winner.
