DOHA: The Qatar Swimming Association (QSA) received praise from organisations and federations at the Fina convention in Moscow, after successfully hosting the Fina/Arena 2012 Swimming World Cup in Doha last month.
Among the people to praise QSA were Thomas Bach Vice-President and member of the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), President of Fina Dr Julio Maglione and the vice president of Fina and member of the Executive Board of the (IOC) Sam Ramsamy.
QSA also received praise for its efforts in which Doha will host the 12th Fina World Swimming Championships (25m) in 2014.
QSA had its own booth in the Russian capital to promote the competition and sport in Qatar as a whole.
QSA President (pictured) Khalil Al Jabir said: “We are pleased to have such a positive reaction towards Doha as a sporting destination, we have an excellent relationship with Fina and the International Olympic committee that have embraced us and our efforts to boost the sport of swimming in the region as a whole, they have entrusted us with these organisations knowing we will do a good job.”
Maglione said: “The Qatar Swimming Federation is a pioneer and great advocate of the sport of swimming in the region and is now a partner of Fina on the world stage for the 2013 World Swimming Championship and the 2012/3 swimming cup series.”
He added: “We will support the Qatar Swimming Assosiation in its efforts to organise the highest quality international competitions and help empower the youth of the people to love the sport as much as we do.”
Doha will host the 2013 World Swimming Cup next year in October, for the second successive year.
Last month, Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu won all her individual races at the Hamad Aquatic Center.
The Swimming World Cup consists of eight meetings that are held across the world.
