DOHA: The delegates attending the 49th International Engineering Insurance Association (IMIA) Conference, which kicked off here today, visited the construction site of the Khalifa International Stadium that is being redeveloped by MIDMAC Contracting Qatar and the Energy Centre by GALFAR AL-MISNAD Engineering and Contracting.
Prior to their ground visit to the stadium, the delegates attended a presentation of the project that is occurring under the route of Aspire Zone Foundation, which will involve the transformation of the old stadium to a multi-sport state of the art facility.
The Stadium will host the 2019 IAAF World Championships in Athletics and it will be one of the venues of the FIFA 2022 World Cup as part of the SCDL programme.
Mansoor Al Muhannadi, Project Manager of the Stadium, accompanied the delegates who were able to witness the progress of work on the site which is up to date according to the set schedule, and includes the new arch that will support the new east wing roof. Delegates were impressed with the excellence of the safety measures that have been implemented and were also given a full illustration of the new technology to be used for the air cooling of the stadium, being a world premiere.
Upon completion, the new Khalifa Stadium complex will involve a retail area, VIP /Corporate zones, and that will be linked to the new Qatar Olympic and Sport Museum.
The energy centre will not only serve Khalifa Stadium, but also other Aspire Zone venues.
