The initiative of the Ministry of Municipality to sell abandoned vehicles through online auction helped greatly in boosting the sales.
“The number of abandoned vehicles sold online has surprised the Ministry officials and us as it crossed 360 percent of the target,” said General Manager and Founder of Mzad Qatar Fahad Al Nuaimi.
Speaking to Qatar TV recently, he said: “The sales rate of the abandoned vehicles was ranging from 50 to 70 vehicles a week. We sold about 1,000 vehicles. On July 29, we uploaded more 50 abandoned vehicles for auction online.”
The Ministry of Municipality, represented by the Joint Committee for Removing Abandoned Vehicles, had signed an agreement with Ebdaa Digital Technology, the owner of ‘Mzad Qatar’ app to sell abandoned vehicles, equipment and boats through online auction in February this year.
The agreement aims at setting up an electronic auction for the disposal and sale of abandoned cars, equipment and boats through ‘Mzad Qatar’ app by sharing details on its website/app to attract maximum number of buyers.
“I would like to thank the Ministry of Municipality for their trust in private sector. The initiative was launched in dealing with abandoned vehicles amounting over tens of thousands impounded from roadsides and other places,” said Al Nuaimi.
He said that the idea behind the initiative was to sell these abandoned vehicles using latest technologies in a bid to increase the sales by approaching maximum number of the customers and obtain better prices.
“Another objective of the initiative was to sell the abandoned vehicles fast to clean the area they occupy for environmental purpose,” said Al Nuaimi.
He said that online auction on Mzad Qatar which is available at electronic devices has created very healthy competition attracting a large number of customers.
“Mzad Qatar app with over 1.5 million users is contributing greatly in raising the value of auctions by attracting large number of buyers using the latest marketing technologies,” said Al Nuaimi.
The agreement included a detailed mechanism for cooperation between the Department of Mechanical Equipment and Mzad Qatar regarding the sale of abandoned cars, equipment and boats through electronic auction.
The department is uploading all specifications of abandoned vehicles listed in the online auction to Mzad Qatar.
The details such as, technical specifications and information about the vehicle such as its type, colour, date of manufacture, chassis number and others are uploaded.
The department is also providing a location for inspecting the abandoned cars, equipment and boats offered for auction, and determines the hours available for inspecting the vehicles during the auction time and before the closing date, giving opportunity to participants of auction to verify condition of
the vehicles.
