Strong inflow of visitors boosting tourism sector

Qatar witnessed growth in the arrival of visitors which has boosted the tourism sector. As many as 97,854 visitors arrived in April 2022, compared to just 13,312 in the same month last year showing a rise of 635 percent according to the latest report by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA).

Of the total arrivals, 62,470 visitors came by flights. The visitors who came via sea totalled to 8,229, while 27,155 arrived via land, the report said.

Qatar has attracted visitors from across the regions with travellers from Asia and Oceania  accounted for highest arrivals during April. According to the report, 32 percent visitors were from Asian countries that is 30, 966 in April this year compared to 7,780 in the same month in the previous year registering a growth of 298 percent. Visitor arrivals measure non-residents travelling to Qatar on a short-term basis for all purposes. It includes arrivals at borders under different 15 visa classes, including all businesses and leisure visa types excluding work visas. 

Arrivals from the Gulf region constituted 31 percent in the total arrivals. The number of visitors from the GCC stood at 30,258 in April 2022 against 2,782 last year showing an increase of 987.6 percent. Travellers from other Arab countries represented 9 percent of the total visitor arrivals as 8,908 visitors from this region arrived in Qatar compared to 864 in April 2021. The visitors from the European countries were 20,019 in April 2022 compared to 1,472 in same period last year, denoting a rise of 1,260 percent on year-on-year basis. 
The travellers from European region accounted to 20 percent of the total visitors in April this year. The visitors from the Americas stood at 6,007 in April 2022 against 283 in same period last year, showing an increase on yearly basis. 

From other African countries the number of visitors stood at 1,696 in April of this year. 
The number of visitors to Qatar during the first quarter (Q1) of 2022 rose by about seven times compared to the previous years, according to Qatar Tourism (QT). Between January and March 2022, number of visitors reached 316,000 compared to 2020 and 2021 full year figures of 581,000 and 611,000 respectively. 

According to MoPH, since the start of the National COVID-19 Vaccination Program, 6,793,081 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered. Also 1,558,140 booster doses administered, and 89.4 percent of the total population is now fully vaccinated with two doses.
