Doha: Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC)  main Emergency Department at Hamad General Hospital (HGH) is well prepared to provide its services during the upcoming Eid holidays, said a senior consultant.

All necessary steps have been taken to ensure the smooth delivery of services,  Dr Yousef Al Tayeb, Senior Consultant of Emergency Medicine at HGH, told The Peninsula.

“We expect to get more patients during holidays compared to other days with different complications. The team at the HGH Emergency Department as well as across HMC’s network of hospitals will continue to provide the highest level of patient care throughout holidays.  The team with specialised doctors, nurses and paramedics we ensure that operations are not affected and patients are given the best care,” said Dr Tayeb.

The number of patients seeking treatment for gastric ailments, road accidents and children for falls and accidents increases during holidays. Therefore people are advised to eat moderately and take precautions while driving and keep children safe.

“During Eid holidays we see more patients seeking emergency treatment for gastric issues such as nausea, vomiting, stomach upset and indigestion due to overeating. It increases from 15 to 20 from a normal day. We also receive some road accident cases and children with trauma due to fall or other accidents,” said Dr Tayeb.

“It’s really important for people to take precautions to keep safe. Children should always be supervised by adults,  everyone should take extra care while driving and getting involved in activities such swimming or going to the dessert. We would like to see an accident -free, safe Eid and holidays,” he added.

All emergency and inpatient services across HMC’s network of hospitals will operate as usual, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Emergency Departments at HGH, Al Wakra Hospital, The Cuban Hospital and Al Khor Hospital will all remain open 24-hours on all days. Heart Hospital’s Emergency Department (for cardiac patients only), the National Center for Cancer Care and Research’s (NCCCR) Urgent Care Center (for patients with symptoms associated with ongoing cancer treatments), and the Women’s Wellness and Research Center’s Emergency Department (for obstetrical or gynecological emergencies) will also operate as per normal timings. Dialysis services will also operate as per normal timings, as will Pediatric Emergency Centers.

Patients have been urged to visit their designated primary health centres for non-emergency health problems.
