Doha: Twitter users were perplexed today after the social media platform's logo mysteriously changed from the iconic blue bird to the yellow dog featured on the Dogecoin cryptocurrency.
The logo showing up on the loading screen and in the top left corner of the Twitter browser window has been replaced with a picture of a Shiba Inu, a Japanese hunting dog breed.
Although some users find the swap entertaining, it is still unclear whether the unexpected change was initiated by CEO Elon Musk, or if it was caused by a bug.
Dogecoin surged more than 30% minutes after the change. According to CoinDesk data, its price last exceeded 10 cents in December.
On Friday, Elon Musk asked a US court to dismiss a $258 billion racketeering lawsuit accusing him of running a pyramid scheme to support the cryptocurrency Dogecoin.
Elon Musk shared a peculiar tweet about the Doge swap hours after the controversial issue, but he hasn't commented on it directly.

Musk reportedly valued Twitter at $20 billion last week, less than half the $44 billion he paid for the social media platform just five months ago.
According to the Dogecoin Twitter handle, the dog behind the Doge meme and Dogecoin cryptocurrency is named Kabosu and she still lives with her owner Atsuko Sato in Sakura, Japan. Kabosu was a rescue dog and became a meme after Atsuko uploaded photos of Kabosu on her blog in 2010.
