Doha: Qatar Museums (QM) has created a diverse programme for the whole month of January from workshops, trainings, events and activities for all age groups.

Five events will happen at Museum of Islamic Art (MIA). A MIA Story Time is set today, January 3, from 11am to 12pm. Young children aged three to five are invited to a 30-minute interactive story time session, which draws on a variety of creative activities — from sock puppet making to colouring and singing.

Renowned Iraqi artist Ismail Azzam will hold a two-day Pencil Drawing workshop on all Sundays and Mondays of the month.

He will teach the techniques of shading, light and introducing details to pencil drawings. This advanced-level workshop is open to students with an existing background in portraiture or still life. Basics of Drawing workshop will meanwhile happen on all Tuesdays and Wednesdays of the month starting from January 11 to 12.

It will be led by Qatari artist, Ali Al Kuwari who will take you on a journey into the fundamentals of drawing. The workshop will cover different types of painting, from planning, formation, mixing colours to dragging photos. This activity will be in Arabic language.

An art workshop called Cyanotype (Blueprint) Inspired by Outdoor is set on January 15. This is open to youth aged 12 to 15. The workshop explores the history of cyanotype – a photographic printing process that produces a lovely monochromatic image in shades of blue and is led by Qatari artist, Mashael Al Hejazi.

And on January 15, MIA will host Family Day - Birds, Birds, Birds! from 12pm to 4pm. Families can come together for a day in the sun and nature at the MIA Park, while the museum is closed for refurbishment.

The National Museum of Qatar, meanwhile, will carry out three programmes namely Let’s Discover the Museum Collection, Children’s Exploration Journey, and Clay Carving.

Let’s Discover the Museum Collection is set tomorrow, January 4, and on January 11. On the occasion of World Braille Day, the Museum’s Learning Team created a tour that enables visitors with visual impairment to access the Museum Collection through the guide’s audio commentary and their sense of touch. Participants will walk through the galleries, where they can also find information in Braille about the objects on exhibit.

Children’s Exploration Journey will occur every Monday and Thursday. This guided tour invites children aged six to nine and their families to use their problem-solving skills to broaden their knowledge of Qatar’s environment, heritage, and culture.  The tour and art workshop Clay Carving meanwhile will be held on January 22.

Participants will learn about petroglyphs, a form of rock art in Qatar and create their own masterpiece inspired by the petroglyphs in the gallery.

Qatar Museums Learning and Outreach also created a line-up of activities.

Starting today, January 3, Between Humans and their Toys – Parents and Kids’ Relationship through Playing  will take place. This workshop demonstrates how quality time spent in play can enhance the parent -child relationship.

Participants will learn how to design and create toys and modelling techniques to make sculptures using mixed media.

Use Your Imagination - Creative Writing Workshop is set from tomorrow to January 5. This workshop will teach basic principles of creative and short story writing, designed to expand their imagination and creativity.

Teachers Teaching Teachers is set for January 9 to 14 from 5pm to 6pm where teachers can connect with and learn from fellow teachers.

On January 12, and online on working days until March, Create your Fashion Look Using Flower Petals will be held. Inspired by the ‘Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams Exhibition’, participants are challenged to think beyond the traditional confines of fashion design.

Select your favourite flowers from the garden to create your own fashion piece, from dresses, shoes or bags, using flower petals or leaves.

And, Fine Art’s Aesthetic Dimensions and Impact on Pop Art is set on January 20 where Kuwait University’s Dr. Musaed Albehairi will share an overview of the aesthetic dimensions in art throughout history.
