DOHA: Qatar’s swimming chief is optimistic of a bright future as young talent in country prepares to compete at the top level including the Olympic Games next year.
Khalid Al Jabir (pictured), the Qatar Swimming Association (QSA) President, said in the coming years Qatari swimmers would be participating in the major events without relying on wild cards.
“We have very young pool of swimmers at the moment. The oldest of them is not more than 15 years. We may go into the Olympics on wild card by FINA this time,” Al Jabir said yesterday.
“But I can promise in the future that some of our swimmers would qualify for Olympics and would compete in major events,” Al Jabir told a press conference at the Hamad Aquatic Center.
The QSA chief said he was confident of a bright future because the young swimmers are showing a good progress in international events.
“Our swimmers have been doing well. They are on track to become world class swimmers. They showed good performance in the Asian Championship and I am sure that they will shine on a bigger stage in the coming years,” he added.
