Ports see 10% growth in vehicles handling

Doha: Hamad, Ruwais and Doha ports recorded a robust performance in April after witnessing significant growth in handling 7,857 vehicles, an increase of 10 percent over same period last year according to Mwani Qatar.

Mwani Qatar tweeted that the ports received 116,431 tonnes of general cargo and over 100,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), in April 2022. RORO units achieved an increase of about 10 percent over the same period last year to reach 7,857 units. The vehicles (RORO) witnessed a rise of 10 percent year-on-year and surged 18.2 percent month-on-month in April 2022. 

The number of ships calling on Qatar’s three ports stood at 247 in April 2022 compared to 216 in last month recording a growth of 14.3 percent on monthly basis and the general cargo stood at 116,431 tonnes in April 2022. The three ports handled 9,586 livestock and the building materials handled by the ports amounted to 31,613 tonnes in April 2022.

The general cargos handled by MwaniQatar ports in the first quarter of 2022 inched up 3 percent to more than 476,000 tonnes from around 462,000 tonnes year-on-year. Container throughput reached 356,443 TEUs during the period and 657 ships called on the ports in January-March this year. The ports handled 16,786 vehicles (RORO) and 58,167 heads of livestock in the first quarter of this year.

According to QTerminals twitter handle, containers, bulk, and break-bulk handled during April 2022 were 103,377 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), 16,180 freight tonnes, and 93,669 freight tonnes respectively. The Hamad Port alone handled 7,834 units of RORO in April this year with an outright monthly record for freight tonnes for RORO at 176,830 freight tonnes.
