Nearly 1,000 patients have benefited from financial services provided by the Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) during first quarter of 2021.

QCS Chairman Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Jabor Al Thani said a total of 981 cancer patients received the financial support in the first quarter. QCS seeks to reduce the financial burdens on cancer patients, who also include Qatar's residents. QCS helps patients to continue their treatment, until their recovery through coordination with National Center for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR).

“In 2020, QCS supported 1,317 patients with cancer for their treatment. Since the beginning of this year (the first quarter), we have taken care of the treatment expenses of 981 patients, at a cost of more than QR6.5m,” Dr. Al Thani said during an interview with Al Rayyan TV.

He highlighted that since its establishment in 1997, QCS has been working to achieve its vision to be the community partnership platform for making Qatar a leader in cancer prevention by working with partners.

Thousands of people of different nationalities have benefited from QCS since its inception.

“Our goal is to spread awareness of cancer and the importance of early detection and prevention methods, as well as covering the cost of treatment for patients,” he said.

“QCS is keen to provide all material and moral support to individuals living with cancer. QCS covered treatment of cancer patients with an approximate cost of QR30m for about 3,000 patients from 2013 to 2018.”

Dr. Al Thani said that the QCS works on several programmes through targeted groups that include children and the elderly, for each specific programme category.
