The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has said that the final examinations 2019-20 of students of grade 12 of government schools and the students enrolled in adult and evening classes will be conducted under special arrangement to protect them from the infection of COVID-19.
“The students will be distributed in 144 schools; just eight students in a class room and 40 students in big halls like indoor sports venue maintaining a distance of over three meters,” said Adviser to H E the Minister of Education and Higher Education, Mohamad Ahmad Al Bashri, while talking to Qatar TV.
He said that the bus services from home to examination halls will be suspended as a preventive measure to stop gathering.
Al Bashri said that the students of adult education and evening classes of all grades will undergo the final examination because they do not have access to the system of evaluation.
“However, the students from grade 1 to 11 are being evaluated through daily homework and weekly online tests,” said Al Bashri.
Regarding private schools, Al Bashri said that the international examinations of British, US curricula and Baccalaureate Certificate were cancelled.
He said that the private schools which are following above curricula are applying evaluation system and special programmes as per their academic calendar and curricula requirements. “The central examinations of most curricula of community schools were also suspended and now we are waiting the decisions from the international organisations which are conducting such examinations,” said Al Bashri.
He said that daily homework is necessary to check the interaction of students with teachers and monitor the attendance.
“The weekly evaluation is a test to check what the student obtained during the week,” said Al Bashri. The Ministry of Education and Higher Education announced earlier that the examination for aforementioned students will be held on scheduled time by the beginning of June.
According to the Ministry, the discontinuation of study for long time affects education process of the students, especially at this time of crisis which could lead to disrupt many months.
Therefor the learning process will continue through distance learning system which would enable students to receive lessons and obtain necessary knowledge, understandings and skills making students ready to go in next class in the next academic year.
