An auction of classic cars, fancy car number plates, motorcycles, jewelleries and paintings will take place today at Katara Cultural Village at 7pm to support Syrians in Aleppo.
The motorcycles and cars for auction are on a display in the area facing the beach restaurants at Katara while the fancy car number plates and other items will be displayed in Dar Al Bahi Auction House.
The items being offered on auction were collected at a fundraising campaign held in Darb El Saai on the National Day to support the Syrian people. The event raised over QR290m.
The auction is organised by the National Day Organising Committee in collaboration with Dar Al Bahi Auction House.
“The money from the auction will be added to the cash donations collected during the fundraising event on the National Day,” an official of the organising committee told this daily.
The auction will start at 7pm and will continue depending on the public response. The buyers have to pay the full amount within 24 hours, said the organisers.
“There will be some rare collections on offer such as a piece of Kiswa, (covering of the holy Kaaba), which is supposed to cost more than QR1m”, he added.
Some 23 cars of different models, four motorcycles and three fancy car number plates are offered at the auction, among other items.
“We hope people would give more than the actual price because this is a charitable venture, and people would be keen to support this cause,” said the official.
The organising committee was launched for the campaign for Aleppo on the National Day in collaboration with five charities — Qatar Charity, Eid Charity, Qatar Red Crescent Society, Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) and Afif Charity.
The event evoked huge response from individuals and companies. Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammad bin Thani Social Welfare Foundation (JBM) donated the highest amount of QR50m.
