Doha: The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), in collaboration with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), has launched the National Oral Health Campaign.

The campaign, which runs throughout September, focuses on oral and dental injuries during sports.

It includes broadcasting an awareness video about oral and dental injuries in stadiums, and the publishing of educational awareness leaflets on oral and dental health in general and oral and dental injuries during sports in particular, through MoPH and health sector partners' social media platforms, in addition to the displays at the public entrances of government and private hospitals, throughout the month of the event.

The campaign is implemented for the fourth year in a row with the participation of the Department of Medical Services at the Ministry of Interior, public and private schools, the College of Dental Medicine at Qatar University, the University of Doha for Science and Technology, and private hospitals.

The campaign is considered one of the outputs of the National Committee for Oral and Dental Health and targets all segments of society and students at government primary, preparatory, and secondary schools by conducting awareness lectures remotely on the importance of oral and dental health for this category and by publishing educational materials on their websites.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of the importance of oral health care, positive habits towards current oral and dental services in the community; and enhance communication between dental services and prevention departments in various health entities with different sectors of society. It also aims to target all segments of society such as children, adolescents, and adults and encourage them to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Within the framework of the National Health Strategy and under the umbrella of the National Oral and Dental Health Committee, the PHCC, in collaboration with the health entities in the State of Qatar, implemented the National Oral and Dental Health Survey for Children between the ages of 4 and 8 in 2017, where HMC and the Police Hospital of the Ministry of Interior participated in the national survey and in cooperation with the University of Adelaide, Australia.

The survey provided officials and supervisors of oral and dental health in Qatar with the necessary data to make recommendations on reducing the spread of oral and dental diseases and develop optimal plans for their prevention. The Committee is also planning to conduct surveys and other awareness programs.
