Doha, Qatar: The cultural index, issued by the Katara Cultural Village Foundation, monitored the holding of 643 various cultural events, during the period from January to the end of June this year, which varied between art exhibitions, heritage festivals, concerts, art workshops, forums, seminars, lectures, and others.
The cultural index showed that the period from January to June witnessed the holding of 37 art exhibitions that contained about 940 pieces of art, in which about 250 artists participated.
Katara also hosted 19 cultural and heritage festivals, as well as festivals of an international nature, in addition to festivals to celebrate public and local events. It also hosted 10 concerts, 46 workshops and courses that included 86 sessions, 44 gatherings and forums, 46 seminars and lectures, 70 religious activities hosted by the Katara Mosque, and 37 activities that include the distribution of prizes and competitions.
The halls and theaters of the Cultural Village, Katara, also witnessed the screening of 36 Arab and foreign films, in cooperation and coordination with Arab and foreign authorities and embassies in the country, while the Al Thuraya Planetarium hosted 91 shows and received 7,382 visitors.
The Museum of Arab Postage Stamps received about 18,890 visitors, including 332 students, and the museum held 14 activities during the past six months, distributed between training workshops and competitions, while the Museum of Traditional Forums received 5,441 visitors, including 544 students, and the museum held 7 different activities.
In addition, the ceremony for the first half of this year was launched by Katara for several initiatives aimed at supporting culture, literature and art and enhancing their presence in the cultural scene.
The index monitored the influx of 16,451,729 visitors, and the number of Katara beach goers reached 189,598, and Katara received about 3,216 students as part of school trips and visits, and 260 school visits within the programme “Our Culture is a School,” this is in addition to many tourist groups, which totaled 45,100 tourists, and 418 visits from high-level personalities and important official delegations to enhance relations and cultural exchange.
The cultural index, issued by the Katara Cultural Village Foundation, showed an increase in the number of followers of the Cultural Village on social media, as the number of followers on Twitter reached about 426,000, on Instagram about 385,000, and on Facebook about 214,000. The number of visitors of Katara website is 123,165,000; meanwhile, news bulletins related to the Cultural Village are watched by about 1,752,000 people.
The Katara Cultural Index is issued periodically by the Cultural Village Foundation, to cover the activities and events held by the Cultural Village within 6 months (semi-annual), and culminates in the final annual report to determine the compatibility of events and activities with the drawn plans, and the extent of public interaction.
