Eid Charity Foundation has hosted around 70 orphans the charity is raising with their families at an Iftar gathering at its headquarters to "bring smile on their faces" in the holy month of Ramadan.
The event — "Smile of Ramadan" — was organised in collaboration with AlWehda Medical Group, Marsa Malaz Kempinski & Yoga In Doha.
“Eid Charity is sponsoring 150 expatriate orphan children in Qatar out of a total of 85,000 orphans they are sponsoring all over the world," Abdurrahman Al Zaini, Head of Resources Mobilization Department at Eid Charity told The Peninsula.
“The orphans sponsored by Eid Charity in Qatar are living in families with their mothers if they are alive. If both parents are dead, priority was accorded to relatives. Sponsoring orphans is the most in-demand charity project by philanthropists in Qatar. Thanks God, there are so many people in the country who are always ready to extend a helping hand to support the hapless children.”
“The beneficiary children have been provided all necessary money for their expenditure including food, accommodation, education and health among others till they reached the age of 15. Afterwards, if they want to pursue higher studies, they will receive scholarship from social support fund so they could get a suitable job or start a business to merge with society," said Al Zaini.
"Our old orphans are living a happy life. In a case, four brothers, the old beneficiaries of the sponsorship of Eid Charity, have now set up their own company and they are very active members for social works in the community," said Al Zaini.
“My brother and his wife died in a road accident leaving four children behind them,” Abu Abdullah, a Yemeni national, the uncle of the four orphans told The Peninsula. “Eid Charity came forward to save their future. They are paying for all expenses on a monthly basis," he added.
The event began with an opening statement by Ali Al Sewady, General Manager of Eid Charity, who welcomed visitors at the Iftar gathering.
A motivational speech by Dr Abdul Raheehm was aimed at boosting the orphans' self-esteem, and to help them become more optimistic and prepare for difficult hurdles.
"Yoga In Doha" raised the awareness of the orphans regarding self-improvement techniques which includes managing breathing and concentration.
