NEW YORK: The NFL suspended Arizona Cardinals’ linebacker Daryl Washington for the entire season for a violation of the league’s substance abuse policy.
The one-year suspension will cost Washington at least $3m-- $2.9m in salary and a $100,000 workout bonus.
New York Giants safety Will Hill lost his appeal and was suspended for the first six games of the 2014 season after violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
The Giants also made news with the release of quarterback Josh Freeman, who signed with the team during the offseason to compete for a backup spot behind starter Eli Manning.
Meanwhile, New England Patriots’ owner Robert Kraft said that despite drafting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in the second round of this year’s draft, Tom Brady is not going away any time soon.
“From my point of view, and I think for my organisation, we believe that Tom has a lot of play left,” Kraft said.AGENCIES
