Doha: Ooredoo announced yesterday to be Official Telecommunications Sponsor of the popular Amir Cup for the tenth year in a row.

The Amir Cup – one of Qatar’s most popular sporting events – pits Qatari football teams from the first and second divisions of the Qatari football league against one another, in a tournament being held from April 11 to May 16.

“We’re delighted to be sponsoring the Emir Cup for yet another year, and proud to be associated with the event as Official Telecommunications Sponsor for 2019,” said Mustafa Jameel Al Qatami, Senior Director Marketing Communication at Ooredoo, addressing the press conference  held at Ooredoo’s Headquarters in West Bay.

“Supporting sporting events that promote a healthy, active lifestyle and benefit the communities in which we operate is a key part of our corporate social responsibility strategy. We’re looking forward to some awesome football from Qatar’s top teams, and wish them all the best of luck in the competition,” he added.

Ooredoo is set to host two activations during the event; a Shop On Wheels at the final match at Al Wakra stadium, and a giant screen at Katara showing all the matches of the event. There will be a drive-through food festival – Ghabka Ramadan – along with the giant screen, also sponsored by Ooredoo.

“There is no doubt that the partnership between Ooredoo and the Amir Cup is a long-standing, mutually beneficial partnership, with this being our 10th year of working together,” said Khalid Mubarak Al Kuwari, Director of Marketing and Communication, Qatar Football Association (QFA).

“Our presence today reflects the importance of the ongoing co-operation between the two entities, and we are looking forward to extending the scope of our joint work, especially with the services Ooredoo is providing during this even, which will add value to the tournament from a commercial, marketing and media perspective. We are delighted to be continuing this partnership, and are looking forward to working with Ooredoo, not only for the Amir Cup but also for other local tournaments and our national team as well,” he added.
