Gaza: The Government Media Office in Gaza announced on Tuesday that the number of Palestinian journalists killed since the beginning of the Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip in October 2023 has risen to 209.
In a statement, the office reported that journalist Mohammed Al Bardawil was martyred early this morning in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, along with his wife and three children, after an Israeli airstrike targeted his home in the Al Amal neighborhood.
The office strongly condemned the targeting and assassination of Palestinian journalists, calling on the International Federation of Journalists, the Arab Journalists Union, and all media organizations worldwide to denounce these systematic crimes against Palestinian journalists and media professionals in Gaza.
It urged the international community, global organizations, and all institutions concerned with journalism and media to condemn Israeli violations, hold the perpetrators accountable in international courts, and take serious and effective measures to halt the ongoing genocide, protect journalists and media personnel in Gaza, and put an end to their killing and assassination.
The statement highlighted that Israeli forces deliberately targeted journalists and media institutions during their assault on Gaza, wounding nearly 400 journalists, arresting 40 others, and destroying most local and international media offices operating in the Strip.
Additionally, the majority of local radio stations have been forced to shut down due to displacement, forced evacuations, and the lack of essential resources such as electricity and internet access.
