Doha, Qatar: The Katara International Ramadan Open Classic Chess Championship came to a close at Katara Cultural Village, marking the end of a thrilling competition. 

Hosted by the Qatar Chess Association (QCA), the tournament saw 90 players from 22 countries competing for top honours.

India’s Albin Sajan emerged as the champion, securing 7.5 points to claim the first position, edging out Ryan Mendoza from the Philippines, who also finished with 7.5 points. In third place was India’s Chogle Sahil Prashant with 7 points, followed closely by his compatriot Sayed Abdul Qadir, who finished with 6.5 points.

Qatar’s Layan Al Qassabi concluded the tournament with 6 points, while fellow Qatari Irfan Mohammed earned 5.5 points. The event also recognised the exceptional young talent from Qatar, with Khaled Al Jamaat winning the Best Qatari Player (Under 10) award, and Abdulaziz Al Mahasneh claiming the Best Qatari Player (Under 8) award.

The awards ceremony was graced by the presence of QCA President Mohammed Al Mudahka, who presented the prizes to the deserving winners, bringing the championship to a fitting and celebratory conclusion.
