Doha: The Shafallah Centre for Persons with Disabilities has launched a two-day awareness campaign in honour of World Down Syndrome Day, under the theme “Towards Greater Understanding,” at the Cultural Village Foundation - Katara.
The campaign aims to raise awareness about Down syndrome, foster societal understanding of the abilities and valuable contributions of individuals with Down syndrome, and share success stories.
It features comprehensive social media outreach, workshops in schools to educate students and institutions, and interactive competitions with prizes at Katara under the slogan “A Day for Them,” encouraging direct public engagement.
Shafallah also seeks to highlight the potential of individuals with Down syndrome in various fields and advocate for their right to employment, promoting their role as active participants in society. The main events include public competitions at Katara, with prizes awarded to participants.
World Down Syndrome Day, marked annually on March 21, is a global occasion for those with Down syndrome, as well as their families, friends, and supporters, to engage in activities that enhance awareness and advocate for inclusion and well-being for this community.
